The L.A. Times had a story about the platypus genome today:

The platypus: A living quilt

A more complete version of the story appeared in the Washington Post:

Platypus Genome Found Fittingly Strange

"The duck-billed oddity contains genes that are mammalian, avian and reptilian, scientists who mapped them say."

On another note: here is an interesting observation about octopus blood:

"Why isn't an animal so intelligent, so powerful, so versatile, and so adept in camouflage more dominant in the oceans?"

I think there are already aliens among us, but they evolved here.

Im a little skeptical. Espcially the Octopus. The ocean is still very strange to us. There could be some wierd creature at the bottom of the ocean that lead to the octopus. Evolution is a wierd thing. One little mutation could lead to these strange occurances
